Edge computing is a distributed infrastrucure that reduces latency by housing applications, data, and compute resources at locations geographically closer to the sources of data and end users. With millions of IoTs generating huge amounts of data remote storage and processing in the cloud can no longer sustain the responsiveness needed by these operations. Having some of the processing and data storage closer to the source also saves on band widht needed for these data volumes. Edge computing is in someways similar to hyper-converged infrastructure, where data storage and processing takes place in a packaged virtual environment under software control. This section offers experts that the non technical business leader can consult to be able to do the due diligence needed in order to make informed strategic decisions on technology acquisition and deployment options being presented by other technical experts and vendors.
