ESI Group
ESI Group's has developed what it calls, “immersive virtual engineering,”. This technology combines immersive VR with virtual prototyping. Their latest softwareversion " IC.IDO" (pronounced “I See, I Do”) is used with head-mounted displays (HMDs) and handheld controllers like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive as well as the VR CAVEs, powerwalls, and desktop systems. With the software engineers can create virtual simulations of devices, products, and environments which can be used by process release engineers, manufacturing process engineers, assembly tooling program managers, and ergonomic engineers across a variety of manufacturing and assembly industries.
With this technology, engineers can check out scale models of their designs, interact with them as they would the actual object, or they can adjust the scale to inspect of specific components more deeply. For example, an automotive engineer can view a vehicle at scale in real time, but also expand the scale to get a detailed view of a specific part, like a spark plug. ESI Group's technology is expected to cut costs and improve efficiency by allowing engineers to verify product designs virtually before any physical object is produced or assembled.
